Robert A. Motley

Robert A. Motley serves on the National ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøBoard of Directors and brings over three decades of experience in education. He spent 18 years as a high school and middle school principal and concluded his distinguished career in public education as the Director of High Schools before retiring from the Howard County Public School System. Robert began his educational journey as a high school French teacher and has served as both a teacher and administrator at the middle and high school levels.

Robert holds an undergraduate degree in French and Foreign Language Secondary Education from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master’s degree in Elementary and Secondary Educational Administration and Supervision from The George Washington University. He is All But Dissertation (ABD) Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership at Notre Dame of Maryland University.

In addition to his service as president of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) in 2021, Robert served as a member of the Board of Directors for the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA) and served as President of the Howard County Association of Supervisors and Administrators (HCASA).

Lastly, Robert is passionate about building strong, positive relationships with students, families, and staff. He is a committed advocate for student voice and equity, striving to ensure that schools are inclusive, supportive environments where all students can thrive.
